“I came up with the ideas and they came up with the plan.”
After spending 11 years on the road, including seven years driving for Booth’s Logistics, Cameron decided to take the leap of becoming an owner-driver. With a clear need for a reliable and purpose-built truck and trailer unit, he chose to turn to Domett with confidence.
“I’d been pulling a Domett trailer for 4.5 years with barely any issues,” Cameron shares. “That was enough to convince me to go back and get the full setup through Domett.”
Cameron’s new rig features a 7.4m curtain sider body mounted on a Scania R590, paired with a 5-axle curtainsider pull trailer, measuring 11.4m. The setup includes practical features like a lift axle on the rear of the trailer and a strap-and-go system for both the truck and trailer. Full length interior Strip lighting for night loading, a false headboard on the truck that can be positioned in multiple positions to suit the load and the ability to install and operate a mezzanine floor if necessary. Additionally, the unit offers ample storage space with multiple toolboxes. However, it’s the custom features that truly sets this rig apart.
“There’s stuff on this unit that Domett had never done before,” Cameron notes. “I came up with the ideas and they came up with the plan.”
One standout addition is the bespoke lighting system that runs below the decks of both the truck and trailer, designed to illuminate the entire side of the unit during night-time operations. Cameron pitched the idea to Domett, and the team took it from there, handling everything from suggesting the lights to designing the mounting system.
Reliability played a significant role in Cameron’s decision to choose Domett for his new unit. Having run a Domett trailer for over four years without any issues, the choice was easy for him.
“They tow well, they look good, and they’re built properly. My old Domett trailer had done over 550,000km and barely needed any repairs,” he explains.
What stood out to Cameron just as much as the quality of the equipment was the ease of communication and collaboration with the Domett team. “They’re really easy to talk to,” he says. “I could walk into the finishing department, explain what I wanted, and they’d make it happen. Nothing was ever too hard.”
“They’re always willing to find a solution. You don’t get a ‘we can’t do that’ response, if anything, they’re open to ideas and eager to make it work.”
